Edmonton Firefighter, Ryan McDermid passed away on Wednesday, May 1, after a very courageous battle with cancer. He was 48 years old. When Ryan first joined the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services in 2005, he earned a reputation for being a devoted and valued member of the agency. He spent the most of his career in Platoons 3 and 4, working in various locations throughout the city. He worked at Station 10 in HazMat for close to four years as a technician and as a fireman qualified (FFQ) and senior firefighter qualified (SFFQ).
Ryan was respected for his impartiality and thoughtful approach to all circumstances, in addition to his keen wit and engaging smile: he was known for both of these qualities. We extend our most sincere condolences to Ryan’s wife, his daughters, and all of his other family members and friends who are experiencing grief over this loss. During this extremely trying time, we are keeping each and every one of you in our thoughts.
